The Craft of The Cooper
(barrel maker) can be traced back thousands of years.
At one time barrels or casks would be the main transportation vessel for both wet and dry goods.
Every community would have the requirement for a person skilled in the trade who could construct, repair and renew barrels.
To this day in Scotch Whisky the cask is the most important component in the process of ageing the spirit and so the craft is still to the fore.
